CIRRUS for Retinal Disease
With the new FastTrac retinal tracking system, precise macular thickness analyses, Fovea Finder™, detailed layer maps and more than 100 B-scans at your disposal, CIRRUS provides the framework to comprehensively assess your patient’s retinal condition. CIRRUS data cubes are registered with data from prior visits after the scan is acquired. This enables side-by-side visualization of the same location on the retina for each visit. CIRRUS compares measurements from the current and prior visits to provide a thickness change map that helps you determine next steps for your patient. 3-D cubes and Advanced Visualization™ can be used for pre-operative planning for VRI disorders. Spectacular Images

With world-class ZEISS optics and knowledge from over a decade of experience in OCT, CIRRUS captures spectacular images of both the retina and anterior segment. Visualization and caliper measurements of the deeper layers are also facilitated by Enhanced Depth Imaging (EDI) , now available with the HD Raster scan.

 The Power of the Cube

CIRRUS captures a highly dense cube over a 6 x 6 mm region – the data is used for both visualization and analysis. How this helps you:

  • Spot small areas of pathology. Tightly spaced B-scans, either 30 or 47 μm apart, in the cube ensure that small areas of pathology are imaged. For reference, a human hair is about 40-120 μm in diameter.
  • Visualize the fovea. Scans that are spaced further apart than in the CIRRUS cube may miss the central fovea.
  • Fuel for analysis. Millions of data points from the cube are fed into the Zeiss proprietary algorithms for accurate segmentation, reproducible measurements and registration for change analysis.
  • Take the pressure off the operator. As long as the scan is roughly placed about the fovea or optic nerve, the software automatically centers the measurements after the capture.
  • See the tissue from different perspectives. View the cube data from all angles, with 3D rendering, OCT fundus images and Advanced Visualization™.
  • Future ready. Previously captured CIRRUS cubes can be analysed using new analyses.

Zeiss segmentation algorithms

Leveraging over a decade of experience with OCT, Carl Zeiss and its research collaborators strive for excellence in algorithms to segment layers for measurements. CIRRUS macular thickness, RNFL and optic disc measurements have been extensively validated, showing excellent repeatability and accurate segmentation. The optic nerve head algorithm is designed to precisely measure the neuro-retinal rim while accounting for tilted discs, disruptions to the RPE and other challenging pathology.

The new, groundbreaking Advanced RPE Analysis provides insight on dry AMD and pigment epithelial detachments using OCT technology alone. Ganglion Cell Analysis – adds new insights to complement RNFL and optic nerve head analysis.

Measurement centering with FoveaFinder and AutoCenter

On the macula, the unique FoveaFinder technology ensures the ETDRS and ganglion cell plus inner plexiform layer measurement frameworks are centered on the fovea. The AutoCenter™ function automatically centers the 3.4 mm diameter peripapillary RNFL calculation circle around the disc for precise placement and repeatable registration. The placement of the circle is not operator dependent. Accuracy, registration and reproducibility are assured.

Evaluate the patient against Normative Data

Normative databases are available for macular thickness, RNFL thickness, optic nerve head and ganglion cell plus inner plexiform layer thickness.

Spotting subtle pathology on the macula

Spotting patterns of defects – Deviation Maps

Change analysis you can trust

FastTrac Retinal Tracking to Track to Prior Scan position (CIRRUS HD-OCT 5000)
Place HD Raster scans in the same position as the prior visit. Then, visual comparison can be made, toggling back and forth between the current and prior B-Scans. CIRRUS data cubes also use FastTrac to scan the same location as previous exams.

Post-Acquisition Registration
CIRRUS data cubes are automatically registered to cubes from prior visits after the scan is acquired. Data from the current cube is aligned and rotated as necessary to allow pixel by pixel comparisons to the prior visit.

Precise Macular Change measurements and visualization
Macular Change Analysis provides measurement from two visits and provides a thickness change map . You can compare current and prior B-Scans side-by-side to the B-Scan in that position from the prior visit.

Guided Progression Analysis (GPA™) for Assessing RNFL and Optic Disc Change
GPA™ compares RNFL thickness and optic disc measurements over time and determines if statistically significant change has occurred.
Focal Progression Analysis – Up to 6 progression maps are compared to two baselines. Areas of statistically significant change are color-coded yellow when first noted and then red when the change is sustained over consecutive visits.
Trend Analysis with Rate of Change – RNFL thickness values are plotted over time. Trends are calculated and confidence intervals are shaded when rate of change is statistically significant.
